Write to Rob Milligan MPP !!!!

If you really want to DO something about the claiming of part of the West  Beach  as private property     (” This beach is MINE and YOU can’t go on it! ” )  then here is something you can do— write a paper letter ( best ) or e mail Rob Milligan to show your support for the Great Lakes Shoreline Right of Passage Act . He is looking for that support to move this bill forward.

A sample letter is provided on a tab  — just change or add to it to make it yours– and send it. Everything is there. For the cost of a stamp you can really help out. Just do it—- please!!!!

If you need more info about the Act there is a tab for that too– right up top.  E mail us at cobourgbeachsociety@gmail and we will send you a warm fuzzy.

MPP Rob Milligan requests a show of public support for the Right of Passage Act

A total of 9 representatives from the Cobourg Beach Society, including two councillors from the town of Cobourg, met local MPP Rob Milligan on April 11.   Rob listened attentively to our explanation of the Bill– he is quite aware of it– and has requested   a show of strong public support from municipalities, groups, and private citizens  that would be very helpful in making a case for this Bill.

We are working with various local government and  community groups to  do this, and we make one  request to all citizens who wish to once again walk the West beaches and others that have been claimed as ” theirs”  by property owners— please contact Rob to show your support for this Bill. ( See the tab above for more info about the Great Lakes Shoreline Right of Passage Act ).  A paper letter works best.

MPP Rob Milligan, Suite 201, 1005 Elgin St West, Cobourg. ON  K9A 5J4

Rob is on Facebook too– just run a search engine to find him.

New News from Bob

Bob Cairns reports:

1. The Right of Passage Act passed second reading on May 5 2011. From here it goes to committee and then to 3rd reading. Will this happen before the October election? Doubtful.

Still the support and general agreement with the concept of public access to Great Lakes shores was noticeable. Kim Craitor and 2 other MPPs spoke for it and a third member expressed general support but some concerns that will have to be addressed.

I also met some Shorewalk types from Lake Erie and Wasaga Beach – by all accounts the situation there is a troubling as Cobourg’s if not worse.

Kudos to Lou Rinaldi: he was there, voted for the bill, and even took a moment to have a chat with yours truly outside the chamber.

2. Hey we will be making a movie ! Thanks to Michol M who knows how to do these things we have met with her and Astrid H and sketched out a movie. Lots of research to do on a rainy day. We are planning to shoot some personal interviews of a “ what the West Beach means to me” type at the June meeting ( June 23 ) .
